How do you cut a gemstone without using a faceter machine?
Is it possible to somehow “file” the gemstone? Faceter machines are expensive that is why I am asking.

Yes faceting machines are expensive and faceting is also a skill and an art that takes years to master. It depends on the stone you have, but most likely there is no other way. If you found a crystal that you want to polish, you could buy a rock tumbler. If you have a gem that needs to be re-cut you should hire a pro. I recommend going to your local gem and mineral show. Most communities have one every year – you may find a hobby lapidary who won’t charge you too much.
